Steve Cook began his duties as mayor in January, 2005. While new to public office, Cook has been active in city affairs for a number of years. He was appointed by the mayor to chair a community needs task force that met throughout 1999, served on several other community issue committees, and was a co-sponsor of several citizen initiated city charter changes that were approved by Hutchinson voters.
Cook has been a resident of Hutchinson since 1983 and works in electrical maintenance at 3M. He was very involved in the formation of the Crow River Area Youth Orchestra and served as board chairperson and manager of the group for several years. Cook enjoys theater and the arts, bicycle touring, researching issues, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Kay, have three children.

COUNCIL MEMBERS

Bill Arndt      Residence: 1660 South Grade Road SW (320) 587-6882

Bill Arndt began his post as council member in January, 2003. The Hutchinson native has served the community for many years including ten years on the Hutchinson Planning Commission and six years on the Joint Planning Commission. He also serves on the McLeod County Fair Board and is a snowmobile safety trainer. Arndt retired from 3M in the early 1990s and currently drives school bus part-time. His interests include traveling to Denmark to help out on his daughter’s farm, fishing and farming a 300-acre farm west of Hutchinson. He and his wife Joan have three grown children and nine grandchildren.

Eric Yost is employed at Hutchinson Technology Incorporated as the corporate environmental engineer. He has been with HTI since October 1997. Prior to working for HTI, Yost worked at Barr Engineering (Bloomington, MN) for over 10 years as a senior engineer and project manager in the air quality and pollution prevention business units. Dr. Yost has a BS in Biological Sciences from Cornell University, MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota, PhD. in Water Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, and MBA from Colorado State University. He enjoys activities with his family and likes to play tennis, golf, and bicycle. Yost, his wife Joann and two children moved to Hutchinson in 1998.

Jim Haugen      Residence: 420 Grove Street SW (320) 587-8425

Council member Jim Haugen was appointed to the city council to complete the remainder of a vacated position. He has since been elected to one-year and four-year terms. Prior to his appointment to the council, Haugen served the community as a member of the Hutchinson Planning Commission, Economic Development Authority, and the Building Code Board of Appeals. He received his BS from the University of Minnesota in Architecture and is self-employed. Haugen enjoys camping and canoeing in the BWCA, biking, reading and collecting antiques. He and his wife Sandie, have lived in Hutchinson since 1975. They have three grown daughters.

Chad Czmowski is the owner and manager of Outdoor Motion Bike Shop in downtown Hutchinson. He has owned the shop since 2003. Prior to working at Outdoor Motion, Czmowski worked at Quality Bicycle Products in Bloomington, MN. Chad earned a B.S. in Social Studies education from the University of North Dakota in 2002. In his free time Chad enjoys kayaking, motorcycling, and camping.
