Appointed by the City Council to serve as the city’s chief administrative office, the city administrator is responsible for handling the day-to-day oversight of all city operations.

The city administrator directs the operation of city government and provides supervisory authority over all municipal departments in accordance with the goals and polices as established by the City Council, which include Creekside, Engineering & Public Works, Finance, Fire, HR, IT, Legal, Liquor, Motor Vehicle, Parks & Recreation, Planning & Zoning, and Police.

The city administrator and the administration department also provide assistance to the Mayor and City Council in research, problem resolution, and budget analysis. The administration department also prepares council proceedings and agendas, keeps records of all council meetings, enforces the Charter and laws of the city, and directs the preparation of departmental budgets. The city administrator also serves as the liaison between the city and outside agencies.

Matt Jaunich has served as Hutchinson’s city administrator since January of 2015. Prior to joining Hutchinson, Matt had 13 years of previous city and county management experience. Prior to working for the city of Hutchinson, Matt served as Sibley County’s first ever county administrator for 2 years. Matt also served as the city administrator in Arlington and Hector, Minnesota for 5 ½ years each. Matt began his career in local government as an intern with the Hutchinson EDA. Matt is a member of the Minnesota City/County Management Association.
