CreekSide Recycling Drop Off

In addition to the curbside recycling program, recycling is also available at CreekSide Compost Facility. The drop box accepts the same items as the curbside program. The facility offers a cardboard/paper dumpster and a separated recycling container.

| Glass: |
Clear/brown/green. Please remove all caps & lids. No ceramics (example - coffee mugs, window glass or mirrors.

| Metal Cans: |
Aluminum and tin cans may be placed in the same bag. No foil please.
|
| Plastic: |
#1 and #2 plastics ONLY - soda bottles, milk/water jugs, laundry containers, shampoo bottles etc. Please remove all caps and lids. No yogurt, butter or sour cream containers. No pails or buckets.

| Newspapers: |
All newspapers, glossy inserts, flyers, magazines, catalogs and phone books may be put together.

Boxes &
Paper |
Includes cardboard and gift boxes, home office paper, junk mail, hard & soft cover books, food packaging boxes, notebooks, file folders, sticky notes, etc. Please remove all plastic wrap and polystyrene from packaging containers. Cardboard must be reduced to 3' x 3' sheets to be picked up curbside. It can be set outside the blue bin as long as it is tied together securely.

The City of Hutchinson, in partnership with the McLeod County Board of Commissioners and Solid Waste Management Dept., is delivering all curbside recyclables to the new McLeod County Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). In order to ensure that all recyclable materials are processed in an efficient manner, please see information below.
*We ask that the residents of McLeod County continue to do a great job of separating out their recyclables!
*The better your recyclables are separated, the more efficiently they can be processed by McLeod County.

Tips:

Plastic Grocery Bag
Recycling |
Plastic grocery bags should be deposited in the same receptacle as newspapers and magazines. They can be deposited a the MRF, township shed, and drop-box locations. They are NOT collected curbside due to the fact that they will be caught by the wind and litter our communities.

Aluminum Redemption
Program |
Redeem money for your aluminum cans at the MRF. Prices will be subject to change based on end markets. Residents can also donate their can doll ares to a non-profit organization participating in the Good Will Directory located on the west side of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This program is closed on Mondays to perform system maintenance. If you can only bring in aluminum on Mondays, you must call the number below to schedule and appointment. Product Exchange Program
|
The Product Exchange Program, located in the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility, consists of an assortment of usable household products brought in to the HHW Facility. The exchange is open the same hours as the HHW Facility. The items on the exchange are available to the public free of charge and on a first come first serve basis. Items on the product exchange shelves change daily and McLeod County staff cannot guarantee that specific items are available. The HHW Facility does not guarantee the condition of the materials set aside for reuse. For a list of items available through the Product Exchange Program, refer to the list of Items Accepted above.

Problem Material Management
Problem Materials are classified as household items that can be recycled, but are cumbersome and are not replaced regularly. Many contain hazardous components and/or chemicals which pose environmental as well as public health and safety concerns.
Tire Collections:
Tire Collections are held each year at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in front of the Grandstand. The collections are scheduled at the end of august each year and are conducted from 8 a.m. to noon. Call 1(800)335-0575 for the current collection day this year.
Appliance Collections:
A minimum of seven appliance collections are conducted throughout McLeod County each year. All county residents are permitted to participate in any and all collections conducted by McLeod County Solid Waste Management regardless of residence within the county. Each participant may recycle up to 5 appliances per collection at a cost of $10 per appliance. For collection dates and times, contact 1(800) 335-0575.
Some examples of appliances are: Washers, Dryers, Water Heaters, Microwaves, Water Softeners, Stoves, Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, Dehumidifiers, Freezers, and Dishwashers.
Electronics Collections:
Although McLeod County Solid Waste Management is still working on a long-term collection/disposal policy, we will schedule a minimum of five collections at various locations throughout the county to accommodate the growing demands of e-waste disposal. Some examples of electronics are: TV's, Stereo Equipment, Computer Equipment, Copiers, Faxes, Printers, Phone Systems, Video Recorders, DVD Players, Cameras, etc.
An update about appliance and electronics recycling may be coming soon. The McLeod County Solid Waste Management Department is researching the ability to have a year round drop site at its facility in Hutchinson. For further details, call 1(800)335-0575.
